The aftermath of the Bitcoin Halving

On Saturday 20 April around 2am (CEST), the Bitcoin Halving took place. The price of Bitcoin remained stable at around $63,000 immediately after the event. While the immediate impact seemed muted, Bitcoin's value is currently on the rise and there are predictions of a possible breakout beyond the $80,000 mark. Anthony Scaramucci, the founder of SkyBridge Capital, expressed his views on Bitcoin on X, formerly Twitter, stating: “It took guts to own Bitcoin before now. From here out it's a question of brains.”

Grayscale plans to launch spinoff Bitcoin ETF

Grayscale Investments is implementing a strategy similar to BlackRock by launching a new, more affordable version of its Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC), called the Bitcoin Mini Trust (BTC). This approach aims to attract different types of investors without reducing fees on the existing GBTC, which has been experiencing consistent asset outflows. Despite this new offering, industry experts are skeptical about its potential success compared to BlackRock’s past efforts in segmen ting their funds to attract both long-term and short-term investors.

Norway wants to regulate crypto mining

Norway is set to introduce regulatory measures specifically aimed at data centers to lessen the environmental impact of energy-heavy cryptocurrency mining. The legislation will require data centers to register with local authorities. This initiative seeks to limit projects that have high greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental concerns. The overarching aim of these regulations is to monitor and control industrial activities that could lead to harmful emissions, in order to support the country's environmental and sustainability goals.
